Mia Carleton

Mia Carleton Artist Statement:

I was inspired by histology images to create a drawing of an abstract desert landscape. I enjoy making abstract art and activating different parts of my brain than I might normally use in studying medicine. I studied histology slides of intestinal villi, muscle tissue, blood vessels, and bone marrow. In each of these, I saw parallels in nature, which led to the creation of this idea. I was inspired by the bright colors of different histological stains and chose to include those in my artwork. To make this piece I worked with oil pastels and colored pencils.
